Rage
ID returns with arguably the prettiest post-apocalyptic game on the shelves. Rage introduces the player to very interesting world; one full Borderlands-esque maniacs and completely hand drawn environments.
The look of the map is individual to the game. Every color is handpicked for each square inch of one’s surroundings. Though having such an extreme detail has repercussions in that the world has to be relatively small. One will quickly find themselves driving back and forth from destination to destination.
Combat is wonky and often will give the benefit of the doubt to the computer often resulting in the target running behind cover and your left with one less magazine of ammo. The “wingsticks” which act as a boomerang/scythe combo is by far the most useful item. Being able to dispatch multiple enemies and with a good throw will return to your inventory.
Rage may not be a pick up and play game nor is it along game. But sets a standard of what video game environments should look like.
